THE SCORCH TRIALS is in!

I tweeted this yesterday, but I have officially turned in THE MAZE RUNNER's sequel to my agent and editor. Like any good author, by the time I clicked send I wanted to murder the book, beat it to a pulp, smash it and smash it so no one could ever read it. That's the point when you know it's time to pass the dumb thing on.

I will now spend the next few days lying awake at night, staring at the ceiling, imagining in my dark mind the many reasons why they will hate the book and ask me to rewrite the whole thing. All authors are this neurotic - at least the ones I know.

No, it's not as bad as I'm making it seem. Almost though!

Anyway, no time to relax. I have roughly a month to finish the third book of THE 13TH REALITY. I'm getting close to the stretch drive of the book, where everything stampedes toward the big climax. So it's gonna be fun.

Thanks for the questions in the comments of the last post. I'll save that for Monday, since that always seems to be the day we get the most hits. If anyone has a question for me they'd like to add, feel free.

My very long-timers will remember a time when I used to quote music lyrics a lot. Maybe I'll start that up again, at least every once in a while. Here ya go, and have a great weekend.

I am nothing more than
A little boy inside
That cries out for attention
Then I always run and hide

I cant wait for book 3 I want to read it right now!!!

I downloaded that song because of this book :-)

I'm about to finish the first draft of my fantasy novel, James! And in a month I'll have a decision from another publisher on my sci-fi. The neurosis hasn't hit me full-on yet, but I'm getting there....

I just bought your first 13th Reality book today...huh. I am so excited to read it. My husband and I read books together. He's in the army right now, and I get to see him next weekend. So I bought the book today so we can read it together.

Wow, James, those lyrics just seem to "fit" you so well. Hmm, wonder what that means?

Just kidding. Or am I? Wait, now I'm confused. What were we talking about again?

Great news about Scorch Trials. And I sorta take offense to your statement that all writers are neurotic.

Please excuse me while I pace my kitchen, throwing dishes while I try to figure out what you meant by that.

Congrats on getting ST turned in! Big load off. But the work never ends . . .

Wait, you mean you don't assume your editor is going to LOVE absolutely every word you've written? Poor sap. Whenever I send off a manuscript I expect to be contacted only to be praised for my brilliance.

It hasn't happened that way yet, but I'm sure it will. Best with the wrap of up of 13th the 3rd.

Still love that song.

BTW . . . yeah, it sometimes takes a while to get feedback on those new books. So seriously, don't get too neurotic.

I've been meaning to ask you if you'd restart your lyrics days. I loved those.

As for Scorch--you know, I know, and your next-door-neighbors hamster knows that it's going to rock. =]

Questions for you: Has the fame of Maze gotten to you at all? Even a bit?

Woohoo Scorch! I guess ill wait until monday for the answer and it might be obvious, but so which book will be out first, scorch or 13th part 3? My guess is 13th, but guessing does no good. And since you post so quick I have to keep putting up my review of the "MAZE RUNNER" on your posts and thanks for letting me as some of the fellow dashmaniacs have visited and liked it. Hope you don't mind and soon I will have the 2 13th's up there too! www.thelateinergangbookreviewspot.blogspot.com for a review of Maze Runner. I'm also trying to post a link to the review on a few friend sites too! If you wsnt me to stop posting it here I will, but some of the fans have enjoyed it and responded. Thanks James.

Oh James, when you have your Q & A, I hope you look back a few posts because there were some good questions, and I don't know about others, but I'm probably not going to remember mine. Maybe you can start the post with a top 5 or 10, (since you like the #10) recent good questions asked already and answer them. Not a horrible idea.

Hey Dave! Just gave you a little publicity on my book blog. Better check it out!

(I didn't want to clog up your comment space, so I decided to tell you here. Hope you read this soon.)

I guess while I'm here; All Dashner Fans ought to take a look at Dave's book review for Maze Runner! He's linked to it several times in a few posts. Check it out already! He promises that there aren't any story spoilers (I promise too).

Dave said...

Thank you Magenta! I appreciate it. And feel free to clog the posts all you want. Since I must give the 13th reality's 1 and 2 both 5 stars, ill prob do them as a joint review. I wish James had like 20 other books out already. James even though this isn't the Q and A post, what are some of your recent favorite reads, if you like it I'm sure we will. Appreciated.
Dave

Hi there! Just a note that I scored an ARC of Maze Runner at Comic-Con and I could NOT put the darn thing down! It was excellent and I tore through the whole thing over that same weekend (instead of sleeping, I might point out...)

It wasn't until now that I thought "Hey, I should see whether there are any plans for a sequel. It clearly merits one." Then I came here.

I am a happy camper!

Those awaiting its release: it's amazing. You will LOVE it.

James Dashner said...

Wow, Carolee, thank you! You really made my day, and it's just so cool that you got my book at Comic-con.

Awesome and thanks again!

Oh man I want to read the scorch trials. I got the maze runner for Christmas and absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that my mom wanted to read it. She already finished it and we can't wait for the scorch trials. I am sure I will be fighting for it in line at barnes and nobles or books a million I just want to read your books all day long. I think that 3 books is way too short. Either make the books longer or add more books. I mean I don't want to sound like a critique but they are just so good. Maybe I will try to read that other series of yours. Until the next book comes out, bye.

This book would not let me put the book down. I read it in an entire day and the only time I took a break was when my mother threatened to ground me for a week if I didn't come to dinner.

Hey Shank!
The Maze Runner is my favorite book. I have never read anything quite as amazing and unique! I have a few questions though:

Can I email you fan letters?

Are they making a movie out of The Maze Runner?

And

What would you think about giving
away the next book to a group of
7th graders, (or in this case, 7th gladers)?

Thanks for reading this and please aswer my questions soon.

Love, Leesie

Hi, I got the Maze runner at the library a week ago and finished it in 2 days, I believed it too be the best fantasy/sci-fi novel I've ever read. I even bought myself a copy then the scorch trials came out at the library and i finished it half an hour ago after starting it yesterday morning, It's even better than the Maze runner! I love your books, they are so emotional and keep me on edge the whole time i'm reading them and I can't wait for the 3rd book. I'm really crazy about reading and hopefully when i become a Freshman next year that they will actually have your books in the schools library, so that i won't have to go too the public library!
